Pre-Purchase
Vehicle Inspection in Victoria, BC
Buying a used vehicle? A test drive tells you how the car feels. A professional inspection tells you what’s actually going on underneath. EDP Automotive provides thorough pre-purchase inspections with a written report — so you know what you’re buying before you buy it.
Know What You’re Buying Before You Sign
When you buy a used vehicle, the seller knows more about its history than you do. A standard test drive won’t reveal a failing transmission, hidden rust under the carpet, erased engine codes, or suspension wear that’s months from becoming a safety problem. A professional pre-purchase inspection closes that gap. At EDP, we put the vehicle on a lift, run a full diagnostic scan, and give you a written report with photos so you can make an informed decision — or walk away with confidence.
A Full-Vehicle Evaluation
Our inspection covers the systems a test drive can’t. Every finding is documented with photos and a written explanation.
Engine & Mechanics
Fluid condition and leaks, belt and hose wear, battery health, cooling system, and a full OBD-II diagnostic scan for active or recently cleared fault codes. “Milky” oil, for example, is a classic sign of a blown head gasket that a test drive won’t reveal.
Undercarriage & Drivetrain
Frame condition, rust and corrosion, suspension components, brake pad thickness, rotor condition, tire tread depth, exhaust system, and drivetrain mounts. Uneven tire wear is a major indicator of alignment or suspension issues the seller may not disclose.
Exterior & Bodywork
Mismatched paint, uneven panel gaps, and body filler that indicate poorly repaired collision damage. Windshield condition, weather stripping integrity, and exterior lighting. These are the things a seller won’t mention and a test drive can’t show.
Interior & Technology
HVAC operation (AC blows cold, heater blows warm), power windows, locks, seat adjustments, sunroof, and infotainment. For newer vehicles, we verify that driver-assistance systems like backup cameras and blind-spot monitors are functioning.
A Provincial Inspection Isn’t Enough
If a seller says “it just passed inspection, so it’s in perfect shape,” be cautious. A provincial inspection only confirms the vehicle meets the bare minimum requirements to legally drive on public roads.
It doesn’t evaluate engine health, transmission condition, hidden rust, impending suspension failure, or shoddy collision repairs. A car with a failing transmission, an engine that burns oil, and a heater that doesn’t work can still pass a provincial safety inspection — as long as the brakes stop, the lights turn on, and the tires have legal tread.
A provincial inspection tells you the car is legal today. A pre-purchase inspection tells you whether it’ll still be running six months from now.
We Service What We Inspect
If we find problems during the inspection and you still decide to buy the vehicle, we can handle the repairs. Brakes, suspension, engine work, electrical — everything we inspect, we also service. You already have the diagnosis. We already know the vehicle. One conversation, one shop.

EXCELLENT Based on 468 reviews Posted on Lise HaywardTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have been having my vehicles serviced by EDP for 20 years. EXCELLENT SERVICEPosted on Colin SvobodaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would highly recommend EDP Automotive Services. Fran, Steve, and Daryl, were once again great to deal with. There aren't many garages I trust with my vehicles. When other shops refer folks to EDP it says a lot about their reputation and expertise. When it comes to custom suspension work or alignments this is the place. I'll be back in the future and recommend EDP to any friends or family.Posted on Dan ClaxtonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great people, very friendly.
